The triple calendar chronograph has long been an important chapter in the history of the El Primero, Zenith’s legendary high-frequency automatic movement. From the very beginning in 1969, the El Primero was designed not only as a chronograph but also as a platform to house additional complications such as a complete calendar and moonphase. In 1970, Zenith created 25 prototypes integrating these functions, using the classic round case of the A386 model from 1969. In early 2024, Zenith unveiled three 38mm stainless steel models of the Chronomaster Original Triple Calendar, crafted along the vintage proportions of the 1969 A386 model.
Zenith’s Chronomaster Original Triple Calendar now arrives in a more luxurious 18K rose gold case, maintaining the same compact 38mm dimensions. The novelty incorporates the design cues of its predecessor, the A386, featuring a raised box sapphire crystal, tapered lugs, and pump-style pushers. Its deep black dial serves as a striking backdrop to the warm tones of the case, complemented by rose gold-plated hands, hour markers, and chronograph counters. It integrates the full calendar within the three-register chronograph layout: the day and month are displayed through symmetrical apertures above the sub-dials at 11 and 2 o’clock, the date sits at 4:30, and the moonphase is integrated within the 6 o’clock minute counter. The faceted markers and hands are coated with SuperLuminova SLN C1, ensuring legibility in low-light conditions.
Inside, the El Primero 3610 calibre beats at a frequency of 5Hz while enabling precise 1/10th of a second chronograph measurement—a signature of the iconic El Primero. The movement offers a power reserve of approximately 60 hours. Visible through the sapphire caseback, the open rotor is emblazoned with the Zenith star.
Completing the watch is a black calfskin leather strap, secured by an 18K rose gold folding clasp. Available through Zenith boutiques, online, and authorised retailers worldwide, the Chronomaster Original Triple Calendar in rose gold is priced at approximately INR 26,20,000.
