This year marks the 250th anniversary of Breguet, and to celebrate the milestone, the haute horlogerie brand has unveiled the Classique Souscription 2025 (Ref. 2025BH/28/9W6), a tribute to founder Abraham-Louis Breguet’s vision and craftsmanship. Presented in Paris, where Breguet first established his workshop in 1775, this new timepiece reinterprets the historic Souscription pocket watch originally launched in the late 18th century.

First designed after Abraham-Louis Breguet’s return from Switzerland during the French Revolution, the Souscription watch was groundbreaking both in design and business model—requiring a quarter of the price deposit to fund production. Between 1797 and the early 19th century, around 700 pieces were produced, each exuding refined simplicity.

The new Classique Souscription 2025 is crafted in 18K Breguet gold—a newly developed alloy blending gold, silver, copper, and palladium - exuding a warm vintage hue. The case, measuring 40 mm in diameter and 10.8 mm thick, features a satin-brushed middle, elegantly curved lugs, and a sapphire crystal with a chevé profile (flat and gently curving at the periphery). Water resistance is rated at 30 metres.

The white grand feu enamel dial, inspired by historic models such as the No. 246, No. 324, and No. 383, showcases black petit feu enamel Breguet numerals, a railroad minute track, and a single flame-blued, hand-curved Breguet steel hand. Subtle engravings—including the "Souscription" inscription, a unique serial number, and Breguet’s secret signature—are delicately applied using a diamond-point pantograph.

Powering the watch is the newly developed hand-wound calibre VS00, made in gilded brass to match the tone of the case. It features 144 components, 21 jewels, a 3 Hz frequency, and delivers an impressive 96-hour (four-day) power reserve from a single barrel. The balance spring is made from patented Nivachron™, enhancing resistance to magnetism, shocks, and temperature variations. The movement showcases a newly introduced ‘Quai de l’Horloge’ guilloché pattern and an engraved ratchet wheel reproducing Abraham-Louis Breguet’s original writings.

The timepiece is completed with a navy blue alligator leather strap, lined with small-scale leather, and an 18K Breguet gold pin buckle. It is presented in a special red Moroccan leather box—a nod to the cases historically used by Breguet—bearing the "BREGUET 250 YEARS" gold-stamped inscription and the individual watch serial number.

The Classique Souscription 2025 is priced at approximately INR 46,45,000.

What we think -

Breguet, for all its heritage, is floundering in this day and age. They have long needed to do something exceptional to bring their glory days back. The 250th Anniversary Classique Souscription 2025 seems to be a step in the right direction - classic aesthetics in a modern package, heritage watchmaking exemplified in the beloved movement. We hope to see more Breguet watches setting new trends this year.
