Richard Mille has introduced the newest rectangular watch in its collection—the RM 16-02 Automatic Extraflat reimagines the first rectangular timepiece by the brand, the RM 016, launched in 2007. The new timepiece exudes an urban charm and maintains its distinctive rectangular silhouette, though slimmer at 36mm x 45.65mm. The RM 16-02 Automatic Extraflat comes in two striking variations—titanium and the new Terracotta Quartz TPT® with a reddish-brown shade. Despite its thin profile, the watch is robust, and water resistant up to 30 metres reinforced by three nitrile O-ring seals and twelve grade-5 titanium spline screws.
The watch draws inspiration from the Brutalist architectural style based on raw materials. Its skeletonised movement, composed of intricately woven titanium and platinum, enhances depth and dimensionality, engaging the observer in the watch’s geometric complexity. The Terracotta Quartz TPT® model is crafted with silicate threads infused with a coloured matrix under a high-pressure treatment creating a unique composite, while the titanium model features polished edges and a micro-blown satin finish.
The dial features wire-formed indexes that evoke the mythological labyrinth, introducing a design inspired by Ariadne's thread. Greek legend states that Theseus was given a thread by Ariadne, daughter of King Minos, to help him negotiate the Minotaur's labyrinth.
Beneath the skeletonised dial, the automatic in-house RM 16-02 calibre powers the watch with a power reserve of about 50 hours. The baseplate and bridge of the movement are made from grade 5 titanium with an electroplasma-treated, micro-blown grey finish, thus making it lightweight and durable. The variable inertia balance wheel enhances shock resistance while ensuring consistent timekeeping, while a platinum rotor with a OneWay winding system optimises energy efficiency, delivering an impressive power reserve.
The timepieces are flanked with matching-coloured rubber straps. The Terracotta Quartz TPT® edition is priced at INR 1,31,95,000 (approx.), while the Titanium version is available for INR 1,15,91,000 (approx.)

Richard Mille continues its legacy of creating thin and bold timepieces. The Terracotta Quartz TPT® variant, in particular, stands out with its fresh colour and material innovation, an area that Richard Mille is pioneering all on their own.
