In 1997, founders Martin Frei and Felix Baumgartner unveiled Urwerk’s debut creation at Baselworld: the UR-101. Inspired by the Millennium Falcon, its 38mm yellow gold case housed a revolutionary wandering hours and minutes display. A year later, the UR-102 followed, refining the concept with a Sputnik satellite-inspired silhouette.

Now, the brand resurrects its pioneering model with an upgraded design—the UR-101 T-Rex. First introduced in the UR-105 (2016) and later in the UR-100V (2021), the T-Rex aesthetic is now fully realised in the UR-101, featuring a meticulously guillochéd bronze case in 41mm that evokes the texture of dinosaur scales. Unlike previous models, where the pattern was secured beneath the sapphire crystal, this iteration extends the tactile, engraved grooves across the entire case, from the crown to the lugs, creating a seamless, sculptural effect.

Urwerk, known for its disruptive approach, chose bronze as the material of choice for this evolution. “Bronze is a fabulous metal”, says Frei. “It reacts to the touch. It is alive. It re-oxidises as soon as it is scratched, and this oxidation protects it and erases the traces of time. It is fascinating, as if reacting like the skin’s natural regenerating process”, he explains.

To enhance its organic transformation, the bronze case undergoes guilloché engraving, oxidation, and brushing, developing a rich brown patina over time without turning green. The integrated lugs at the back that subtly tilt the case for ergonomic comfort, are also made of the same metal, while the closed caseback is crafted from black PVD-coated steel.

At its heart, the UR-101 T-Rex stays true to its roots, featuring the signature wandering hour complication with satellite discs, a 180-degree minute display, and a rotating carousel for tracking hours. Time is elegantly revealed beneath an arched sapphire crystal, with luminous Super-LumiNova® numerals set against a deep black background. The mechanism is driven by the automatic UR-1.01V calibre, which combines a Vaucher automatic base movement with an in-house wandering hour mechanism. The movement beats at 4 Hz and delivers a 48-hour power reserve.

Completing the timepiece is a black rubber strap, embossed with a textile-like pattern that echoes the case’s guilloché texture. It is lined with supple calfskin and secured with a black DLC-treated steel pin buckle.

Limited to just 100 pieces, the UR-101 T-Rex is priced at approximately INR 36,85,000.
